From flower to finished product: how we prepare calendula for our cosmetics

De la floare la produs finit: cum pregătim gălbenelele pentru cosmeticele noastre

Behind every Darurile Pământului product there is a flower, a lot of hard work and a desire to preserve what nature gives us as well as we can.

For us, calendula is more than a plant. It's where the Darurile Pământului story begins. We grow it, tend it, harvest it by hand and patiently turn it into ingredients for our natural products.

Today we want to show you what happens to our calendula from the moment we put the seeds in the ground until the oil or cream reaches your hands.

1. It All Starts with a Seed

Every spring, we prepare the land and sow the calendula. This step matters to us because we want to know the raw materials we use as well as possible.

We have our own calendula plantation in the village of Logănești, Hîncești district. This is where much of our work begins.

We pay close attention to the soil, crop care and crop rotation. Each year we grow the calendula on a different plot to prevent disease and keep the soil healthy and well suited to the crop.

2. Hand Harvesting, Flower by Flower

When the calendula starts to bloom, our busiest season begins.

We harvest the flowers by hand roughly every three days, depending on the weather and how quickly new flowers appear. The harvest usually lasts about a month.

It's painstaking work, but it lets us keep a close eye on the raw material and choose the right flowers for drying.

Behind every jar of cream or bottle of oil are many hours spent in the field, under the sun, caring for every single flower.

3. Drying, a Process That Takes Patience

After harvesting, the calendula flowers are spread out to dry on mesh screens, in a space suited to this stage.

Drying takes about 12–20 days, depending on the environmental conditions and the state of the flowers. During this time, it's important to give them the right conditions to dry properly.

We don't rush the process. We prefer to work patiently and check the raw material before moving on to the next stage.

4. How We Store Dried Calendula

Once dried, the flowers are stored in paper sacks in a space protected from light, where humidity and temperature are checked regularly.

Proper storage is important for keeping the raw material at its best until it's used in production.

We also save seeds for the next season's crops. For us, it's a way of carrying each year forward with the same care and staying connected to what we grow.

5. From Dried Calendula to Calendula Oil

One of the key stages in our production is macerating the dried flowers in extra virgin olive oil.

What is maceration?

It's a process in which calendula flowers are left to steep in oil, so that the oil takes up the oil-soluble compounds from the plant material.

Once maceration is complete, the oil is left to settle and clear, then filtered. This gives us the calendula oil we use in our products.

6. From Oil to Calendula Cream

Calendula oil is one of the key ingredients in our calendula cream.

In the cream's formula, we use calendula oil made by macerating the flowers in extra virgin olive oil, together with other ingredients such as shea butter, beeswax, essential oils and vitamin E.

Each ingredient has its role in the formula, and together they shape the texture and properties of the finished product.

The cream is made in our own production space in Logănești, where we pay close attention to every step of the work, to hygiene and to product quality.

7. Why Is It Important for Us to Know Every Stage?

Because we want to know what lies behind the products we offer.

From the seed in the ground to the finished product, every stage matters. Growing, harvesting, drying, storing and processing are all part of our everyday work.

We can't control everything that depends on nature, but we can take care of how we work with the raw material and how we make our products.

Nature, with patience and care

At Darurile Pământului, we believe a natural product begins with respect for what the earth gives us.

Our calendula grows in Moldova, is tended and harvested by hand, then patiently turned into ingredients for our cosmetics.

This is our story: from seed to finished product.
